Large Simon & Halbig 28” 1079 Dolly Face Antique Bisque Vintage DARLING
Item History & Price
Please use zoom to get a clos...e look at her beautiful face.
Her body is in excellent condition for her age and she has all her fingers and toes. Although I do not know the history of this doll, I would say she has likely been restrung, as stringing is tight. I am putting a ? by some items because of the fact I do not know the history of this doll, and although I have experience buying and selling antique dolls, I am in no way an expert. I would suspect her body to show more wear, thus the ? as to being repainted. If so it was nicely done in my opinion. The 1079 was made for the French trade.
Marks: S&H 1079 DEP Germany 13 1/2Size: 28"Head: Bisque socketBody: Composition (ball jointed, original). No marks, repainted? Restrung?Hair: Brown replacement wig is synthetic marked wig 14, made in USA - a pretty brown, curly wig.Eyes: Brown (set, original, repaired?)Features: Open mouth with 4 teeth.
Clothing: Replaced ? Her bonnet is newer, but some of her clothing appears to be old, if not original, and style/era appropriate to the doll. There is a tear on the dress at the shoulder. There are several places the fabric has torn or is coming apart on the thin part of the sleeves, from age. Her bonnet is a work of art in itself with apricot floral embellishments, ties, and French ruching. Her dress is a lovely old ivory with eight buttons down the back and fancy floral and other lace. As said, it does have some tears and age damage.
Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or damage to head (passed the flashlight test). Unable to look inside head as wig firmly glued on. May be wig pulls that I do not see as do not want to remove wig.
Body has typical age wear, body is tightly strung and poses well in all joints without looseness. A beautiful doll that displays wonderfully.
Pierced ears with vintage clear glass drop earrings.
