Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:42980893 | Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
Vintage: Yes | Type: Portable Computer |
Brand: Kay Pro |
From 1982, this is a vintage "portable" computer system Manufactured by Kaypro Corporation. Portable, " meaning the keyboard clips in place in front, covering the screen and floppy drives, and then the entire system can be carried by a handle on the back. It weighs 30 pounds.
The system has a 9" monochrome screen with classic green text, two 5.25" floppy drives, a Zilog Z80 microprocessor, and a whopping 64 kilobytes of RAM (whether you need it or not).
Also included ...is a Wordstar / MailMerge template overlay for the keyboard (see photo).
This system, as far as I can test it, is fully functional. That is to say, it powers on and attempts to read from the A:\ floppy drive just like it's supposed to on boot. However, I have no appropriate disks with which to test it any further. I will say it did read from a disk several years ago when I still had 5.25 disks to test with. It has a serial port and a parallel port on the rear that I also have no method of testing for functionality
The "up" arrow on the keyboard has come off and needs repaired. I still have the key; it just needs reattached with a new spring.
This is a rare collector's item that I have had in my possession for quite some time. I am selling it to clear out some shelf room in my basement.
