A rare movie advertisement for 1933's MOONLIGHT AND PRETZELS. From the advertisement, you can clearly see that this is a pre-Code movie! There were a series of these cards, I am not certain how many exactly, but they seem to be quite rare.
Measures 3 1/2" x 9" and is in terrific condition. In the second uploaded photo, which focuses on the text, there is a little glare from the sun - please forgive.
Front of the card: ONE O...F NEW YORK'S 50 MOST BEAUTIFUL SHOW GIRLS IN "MOONLIGHT AND PRETZELS" / UNIVERSAL'S SMASH MUSICAL HIT! / "Signed" by SUNNY WALTERS (though she is listed as SONNY WALTERS on other sites)
MOONLIGHT AND PRETZELS was actually filmed at the former Paramount East Coast studio at Astoria, Queens, NY.. THE EMPEROR JONES was filming at the same studio in an adjoining studio. According to a movie site, it received good reviews and made the studio a lot of money - "A huge box-office success, it earned back five times its negative cost."
Directed KARL FREUND had just come off of directing THE MUMMY. He would eventually work as a cinematographer and has 163 credits to his name. He won 2 Oscars. One was in 1938 as cinematographer of THE GOOD EARTH and one was in 1955 for design and development of the direct reading brightness meter.
SUNNY WALTERS only has one other movie credit to her name.
Thanks, again, for stopping by. I am happy to combine shipping!
