Description: This listing is for a large guilloche enamel and gilt sterling Summer Brooch and Ear Clips from the Four Seasons Series made by David-Andersen, gold and silversmiths and royal jewelers, Norway. The sterling silver under the enamel carries the design features of a agricultural landscape as viewed from the air with each 'crop' shape featured with a unique design. This landscape design is then covered with colorful enamel to simulate the growing Summer season of farmlan...d in greens and golds. This Brooch and Ear Clips are gold gilt over the exposed sterling silver.
The Four Seasons Series was designed by Thorbjorn Lie-Jorgensen, circa 1959. Each season produced cuff-links, tie clasp, pin/brooch, and ear clips. I have seen 2 different landscape styles and there are a variety of subtle applied enamel color variations though in general Spring is shades of blues and silvers and sometimes with touches of gold and green, Summer is shades of greens and golds and sometimes with touches of brown, Fall is shades of browns and golds with touches of yellow; and, Winter is shades of whites and greys. In essence each piece is unique.
One of my favorite things about air travel is looking out the window at the landscapes below. These jewelry pieces show the beauty of the Summer landscape I love.
Measurements:
Brooch: 18.19 grams; 1 3/4 inches wide by 1 1/4 tall .
Ear clips: 9.23 grams; 5/8 inch wide by 7/8 inch tall.
Markings: Marked on the reverse:
Brooch: Scales; D-A; 925 S; Sterling; Norway --- each in a cartouche.
Ear clips: D-A; Norway; Sterling; 925 S.
David Anderson died in 1901. His son changed the firm's name to a hyphenated "David-Anderson". These marks was used after 1925.
Condition: Excellent 'used' condition. The enamel is perfect in every way. No scratches, cracks or loss. The old style curly Q clasp in original excellent condition. The gold gilt over sterling is a nice yellow gold color though there is some patina/tarnishing. A gentle polishing with a cloth will brighten it up if you choose.
