Rare Cruziana Pectinata Nevada Pre - Trilobite Arthropod Burrow Large
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:4307782 |
An amazingly well preserved burrow or rusophycus that pre-dates trilobites near the boundary of the Ediacaran/Cambrian Periods. This very specific burrow-type was made by a large-carapaced arthropod with a hood for a cephalon. There are many publications on this specific type. Often times the mouth apparatus is preserved at the front of the burrow. The large round structure at the front of this one may... represent that. The plow marks of the head shield are preserved at the outer edges of the burrow. The contrast on this burrow and the surrounding rock is unusual. These are rarely found just beyond the end of the Ediacaran in the Wood Canyon Formation of Nevada as it grades into the Cambrian. The burrow measures 8cm x 6cm and the plate measures 17cm x 9cm.
