Heavy Rectangular Early Victorian Cake or Jelly Mould w Hollow Interior. No makers’ mark as is normal with mould of the late Georgian and early Victorian period but very collectable because of its unusual shape.
A rare and unusual example which was clearly designed so that fruit or hors d'œvres could be displayed in the hollow rectangular centre of the finished moulded dish.
The copper has a nice tone and it has not been too heavily cleaned. The tinned interior shows the usual ...age- and use-related discolouration.There is a small pierced symmetrical hole near the rim so it can be suspended from a hook. There are two tiny splits at the rim on two sections. They are very small but should be evident from the final two scans.
There are no other holes or splits and no sign of any repairs. It is in sound and original condition and will display well . It is a remarkable and original piece which displays well.In good overall but quite heavily tarnished condition, it would certainly benefit from a more thorough cleaning before being put on display.
It is made from a very good gauge of copper with a dark rich colour and patination.
