Asheville Citizen-Times Oct. 27, 1978 I was told by a relative that Van Rossum is still "The ONLY Delft Painter to ever live and work in the US!"In another article written by Lawrence Freeny for the N.Y. Times News Service, Peter van Rossum is quoted as saying, "Delft is a traditional form of tin-glazed pottery, developed early in the 17th century. Delft designs are usually done in a distinctive blue on a white background. I follow my imagination for my designs we never use stencils, and no two designs are exactly alike." Van Rossums great-grandfather, Maarten, began the family ceramic business in The Hague in 1828; at the age of 12; Van Rossum joined his father in the family enterprise. Formal academic work for van Rossum included a masters degree in art and a Ph.D. from Antwerps Royal Academy of Arts. For six months in 1942 he studied painting in Paris with Pablo Picasso. After the war, van Rossum visited the United States, and decided to move to Baltimore with his wife and seven children. He set up his studio there in 1963.Item Shipped with USPS Priority Mail, double boxed for safety so shipping is a bit higher.
