North Dakota Ginkgo Cranei Leaf Fossil
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:4320900 |
The Ginkgo cranei is a roughly 40 million-year-old precursor from the Paleocene Period to our modern Ginkgo tree, and thus a favorite among collectors. This extraordinary fossil was collected with permission on private ground. It is an exceptionally large impression on stable matrix. It has nice, flat presentation with great contrast on host rock. It has excellent color and highly detailed venation. Good American fossils are increasingly... difficult to obtain, and this fossil is a very choice-specimen from a dwindling location in Morton County, ND. The fossil has been professionally prepared (see example of pre- and post-preparation photos in listing) and carefully cut for optimal presentation. This particular fossil is on a matrix measuring 5" x 6". It has an extraordinary petiole and incredible venation across the entirety of the leaf.
