Rare U.S. Model 1917 Remington Rifle Shotgun Bayonet + Scabbard. Remington rarely made bayonets found with the date of 1918 instead of 1917. The reason for this is not known for certain, but it is believed that Remington changed the date to show the year of manufacture, and was ordered to change back as the date was to be left 1917 as the Model date. Winchester never did this, just Remington. The condition of this piece on top of it's rarity is that it is in overall e...xcellent condition. Bayonet measures measures 22" overall with a blade length of 17". Blade is two toned and stamped, "1918" with "REMINGTON" in a circle. Obverse side marked with screaming eagle and flaming bomb cartouche with "27" underneath the bird; "U.S." stamped underneath the flaming bomb with "X" (tested markings) juxtaposed. Excellent walnut grips with no cracks, has some light surface scratches on the top spine area of wood, pommel and cross-guard show great blued finish along with spine metal area. Excellent working press-stud ejector. The scabbard is olive with metal throat and locket that has been blued. Throat piece stamped "GF" on the back bottom in a circle. Leather is excellent with some very minor loss 6" from the point on the back area by stitching. The leather back is marked, "GK/ E.I.C", E.I.C. was the ordnance inspector's intials and the GK stood for the makers Graton & Knight of Worcester, Massachusetts.
