Although undated, the plan was issued in mid-to-late 1971 and aimed at the passengers who would be joining university students on long cruises. Nine decks are shown covering the First Class areas on the ex-QUEEN ELIZABETH. The plans are lifted straight from Cunard and even include the public room names used when the QUEEN ELIZABETH went cruising.
Chinese shipping ty...coon C.Y. Tung purchased the LIZZIE for a mere $3.2 million at a Florida bankruptcy auction in September 1970. It took five months until the badly neglected ship could limp out of Florida, and then another three months to sail and be towed to Hong Kong. Tung planned to cruise the ship around the world with 1, 800 passengers in spruced up First Class staterooms. The former Cabin and Tourist areas would be filled with college students taking a semester at sea. The plan is lifted almost directly from Cunard
What a vast ship this was! It is mind boggling to think of the fires that raced through this former QUEEN on January 9, 1972, just as her refurbishment was finishing up. Within hours all the lovely woods that once filled this ship were aflame, creating such intense heat that decks melted and collapsed into each other.
This plan of a dream gone wrong is in very good condition with a little discoloration on the cover.
