Pancrace Bessa was an outstanding pupil of Redoute and in the employ of the duchess of Berry as painter of natural history subjects.Bibliographical information about this rare and exquisite Flower book:Nissen BB1 161.Dunthorne 33.Plesch 225.In the legend one can find out the scientific and French names of the flower. The name of the artist, "P. Bessa Pinx. " is always on the left side. The name of the engraver is on the right side and varies from engraving to engraving. The natural habitat of the plant and when it blooms is shown on the lowest left line.
