This is antque brass sanctuary lampwith red glass heart and brass crown of thorns.Above is a Holy Face or Veronica's Veil, printed onfabric, touched to the original, and with a wax seal and document from theCanon of St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome, The most of the document is gone, butyou can still see that its from Pope Leo XIII , so its made around 1878/1903. Itexplains the origin of the precious relic and allows public veneration. Pleasenote that the public ven...eration of a relic, e.g. in your parish church, is, according to the Canon Law, only allowed of the authenticity of the relic isdocumented. It is framed behind its original glass. Perfect for veneration onGood Friday! The "Veil of Veronica" or "Holy Face", preserved inRome since the time of Emperor Tiberius (1st Century) and venerated since the8th Century in St. Peter's Basilica. According to the legend, Veronica was apious woman from Jerusalem who encountered Christ on His way to Calvary and, full of compassion, used her veil to clean His face from sweat and blood. Whenshe took it back, His Most Holy Face appeared miraculously on the cloth! Nextto the Turin Shroud, the "Veronica" is another image of Christ"not created by human hands", inspiring Christian iconography untiltoday. Veronica's encounter became a regular station on the Way of the Cross, and even today, once a year, pilgrims receive a blessing with the most holyrelic in St. Peter's on Passion Sunday. It is kept in a special chapel in oneof the four main pillars of St. Peter. In the 19th century, the veneration ofthe Holy Face was propagated by St. Pope Pius IX and, among others, St. Theresede Lisieux, who took the name "Theresia of the Infant Jesus and the HolyFace". This was casued by a miracle. During the revolution of 1849, whenthe Pope had to flee to Gaeto, St. Pius IX ordered the Holy Veil to be publiclyexposed between the feasts of Christmas and Epiphany. On the 3rd day of theexposition, the face of Our Lord on the cloth became clearly visible andappeared to be alive, surrounded by a soft light. The Canons of St. Peterimmediately rung the bells, and crowds of people came to watch the 3 hours longmanifestation. One of the canons was ordered to draw the face as it appearsduring the miracle and the Pope later ordered an improved version of thisdrawing to be imprinted on linnen cloths, which, after being touched to theoriginal relic (and therefore becoming 2nd class relics) were distributed amongthe faithful. This custom was continued for over 50 years.

OF THE FACE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST TO BEVERY SIMILAR TO THAT ON THE TOWEL OF VERONICA, EXPRESSED IN WHITE COLOUR, OFTHE SAME HEIGHT AND BREADTH, AND (it has been) REVERENTLY APPLIED TO THE SAMETOWEL; AND INDEED TO THE WOOD OF THE CROSS AND THE POINT OF THE SPEAR OF THELORD, WHICH IN IS OUR AFORESAID BASILICA (kept with) MOST REVERENT PIETY, AND(preserved) BY MANY OF THE HOLY SEE'S DOCUMENTS, AND CELEBRATED WITH GREATVENERATION BY SO MANY PEOPLE. IN THE BELIEF OF THIS AFORESAID IMAGE I HAVESIGNED THIS LETTER WITH THE
