This magnificent plant was first described in 1781, and is an amazing sight, whether in full-bloom or not. It's greyish-green, strap-like leaves, and enormous, succulent bulb, partially protruding from the ground gives Boophone a distinctive visual presence, unlike any other! In it's native South Africa, the Khoi, Bushmen, and Bantu tribes all use the bulb's potent juice as an arrow poison, and also for it's strong hallucinogenic properties.
