R & Y AUGOSTI (PARIS) TRAY DESCRIPTION:- SIGNATURE AUGOUSTITHEBEGINNINGRia & Yiouri Augousti met thirty years ago inLondon and their love of art and design bound them together.As newlyweds, Riaand Yiouri dreamt of building a collection of furniture and home accessoriesthat bore their name. They sought out sources of inspirations in theirtravels, encountering various cultures, arts and architecture. Whether itwas a peacock from a Nepalese princess garden, c...ut glass found in astore in the Czech Republic, or the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice, Ria andYiouri were drawn to unique pattern, fabrics and shapes.Out of their London apartment, they combinedthese inspirations with their love of the 1930's art deco period and beganto create modern vintage patterns that have become the R&YAugousti signature.
The husband and wife team packed their designsinto the back of their Volkswagen and headed for their 1st show in Paris in1990. Brand name department stores, like Neiman Marcus and BarneysNew York placed their 1st order. And the posh Hotel Crillon in Pariscommissioned them to create desk accessories for their suites. TheR&Y Augousti label was born.In 1994, R&Y Augousti opened its first storein Paris 6th Arrondissement.In 2011, R&Y Augousti opened their firstshowroom in NYC.‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘‘This is a Shagreen and wood tray with stylizedpolished Bronze or Brass handles and with Mother of Pearl or Paua Shell, Brass and Walnutinlays, beautifully done.Measures 23 ¼in. (59cm.) by 13 3/8in. (34cm.) and is 4 ¾in. (12cm) high atthe handles.
CONDITION:-This is a used luxury item, its condition is quite subjective.The trayis in good condition with no faults or damage. It has 4cloth footpads to the base, I dont know if they are add-ons or not but they doprotect the leather base pad really well. It is in excellent condition with notears or scratches. It is very slightly lifting at some points around the base, easily rectified.Thebronze handles are in fine original condition.The traytop is showing slight signs of wear to the shagreen where some leather tipshave lost their colour and there is a one centimetre slight lift on a centrewood insert.You cansee all this, except for the lift, in the photos I have listed and I am onlymentioning this for accuracy. The lift is so small it is not visible in thephotos.Shagreenis a leather so, if required, the white can be redyed easily although it lookspretty good just the way it is. (Shagreenis a type of rawhide consisting of rough untanned skin, historically from ahorses or onagers back, or from shark or ray. In modern times, shagreen isproduced from the skins of commercially farmed Asian sting rays.)
