The Pennsylvania Packet, and Daily Advertiser March 1, 1787 [PRINTS THE CONGRESSIONAL RESOLUTION THAT PRODUCED THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION]. Philadelphia: Dunlap and Claypoole, 1787. Folio newspaper, 4pp. Includes a two paragraph announcement, on page two, of the Constitutional Convention: "Resolved, that in the opinion of Congress it is expedient that on the second Monday in May next a convention of delegates who shall have been appointed by several states, be held at Philadelphia, for the so...le and express purpose of revising the articles of Confederation..." First proposed by Alexander Hamilton and the Annapolis Convention, the wording was slightly changed by Congress on February 21st to gain majority approval, producing the Convention itself. The newspaper also has news of the breakup of Shays' rebellion, including the arrest of Shays, a brief description of George Washington's birthday, and more.
