Federal Junior Crystal Radio Set manufactured by Federal Telephone and Telegraph, Buffalo NY in 1922. Federal was an early pioneer in the spark gap days of radio, even before broadcast stations came on the air. Large crystal set in a very nice metal cabinet .. sliders are controlled by levers on each side of the cabinet. Only problem is that someone has removed the crystal detector assembly [the crystal and the two mounting bolts are still installed on the set]. The last picture shows ...a good close up of a detector assembly ... picture is shown for reference only and to assist in fabrication or replacement of the missing detector. The set measures approx 8" x 8" x 5.5" deep A few places where the paint has flaked, as seen clearly in the photos. The Bakelite top panel retains its original gloss and has no cracks or chips .. picture of the top shows the lightly scratched markings next to each terminal. The dual slider tuning levers move smoothly and positively across the tuning coil. Needs the felt feet replaced on the bottom and of course requires a replacement detector assembly. This is a very clean set ... Find or fabricate a replacement detector and it will be a beauty. Very well packed shipping weight will be 11.5 pounds from zip code 24012.
