Weare listing one of those medals today; the one in the posted pictures. These meda...ls were acquired by pilgrims more than 200years ago at the Basilica of the Holy House in Loreto, Italy, in order toprotect them on their dangerous trip back home. This is a large medal that has a diameter of 1.75 inches, a hanging length of 2.25 inches, and a weight of 27 grams.Saint Benedict appears on one side, and on the other is MotherMary carried by Angels to Loreto atop her ancestral home. We have posted someof the photographs of how this shrine looks today. The medals in our auctions have been inspected byreputable numismatic dealers, and their dating can be confirmed on pages 2& 3 of the book AN INTRODUCTION TO RELIGIOUS MEDALS, by Bob Forrest, andpublished by NUMISMATICA INTERNATIONAL in 2004.In addition, this book has chapters (outlined in thetable of contents), describing each of the categories of medals, their possibleplace of pilgrimage (acquisition), and origin of the mint where they were made.We recommend that anyone serious about collecting medals from this period, acquire a copy of this book. Thanks for your kind support of our work!
