Second Garland of Various Red Glass Beads & Gold Tinsel Garland. Pre-World War I. Germany. Very Nice!In the early 1990s, I curated three exhibits in separate years at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. This is from the exhibit on Christmas through the Decades, and this garland was used on the 1910 feather tree. This, and a few others, have been in storage for a long time in surveyors chest in back closet. It is time to get these out of the drawers, and hopefully a... new care-taker can be found for them.
6.00" feet and in very good condition. These were the result of a cottage industry in Germany. Farm families unable to work outside in the winter, would spend those days making Christmas ornaments. They would be sold to jobbers and various merchants who would market them to American importers who came to Germany to examine these goods. No factories... just families in villages and on farms attempting to make extra money in the winter.
There is nothing wrong this German tinsel and glass garland. These garlands being listed today are in very good shape. They are vintage, not reproductions. I guarantee that. I start all my auctions at .99 cents as it is an auction and I just never cared when I went to live auction and the auctioneer started very high, and then spent time backing down to get a bid. I know it is a low bid, but that is how I list every item on Ebay.I am more than happy to combine postage to save money. Postage includes full insurance on this garland.
Just let me know you are multiple bidding and I will invoice you when you are finished bidding and wish for me to send the items. Then, I will combine postage and send to you, and send final invoice. If any questions about this, please email me.
