Offered here is a rare original, antique, Pre - WW1, British Volunteer Force, 1st (Victoria Rifle Club) Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps, Silver Officers' Cap Badge. The 1st Middlesex Rifle Corps was affiliated to The King's Royal Rifle Corps, before the creation of the Territorial Army in 1908 and the new regiments.The Silver cap badge in the form of a Maltese Cross with no Battle Honours, the King's Crown on top, the Regimental Moto beneath "CELER ET AUDAX" (Swift &am...p; Bold), in the center "THE KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORPS". Unmarked, no hallmarks.Withoriginal copper eyelets behind.The Royal Victoria Rifles was raised in 1853. This unit was formed from the Royal Victoria Rifle Club and in 1859 it then became part of the Volunteer Force as 1st Middlesex (Victoria) Rifle Volunteer Corps. The regiment sent over 500 volunteers to the 2nd Boer War (1900 - 1902) as part of the City Imperial Volunteers (CIV). In 1908 and the old volunteer regiments were reorganised into the new Territorial Force. In this way the new Queen Victoria Rifles were formed by the amalgamation of The Victoria and St George’s (1st Middlesex) Volunteer Rifle Corps; and The St Giles and St George’s (Bloomsbury) 19th Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps. The antique badge is in very good condition for its age, it has been used, the silver is in perfect condition and both eyelets are in good condition too, please see both photos.
