At auction is a Ricoh Auto Half EF half-frame camera made by Ricoh of Japan in 1978. The camera uses 35mm film in standard cassettes to produce 18x24 negatives. It is a half-frame camera and, as such, it will produce twice as many negatives on a roll of 35mm film. It was an improvement of the Ricoh Auto Half E with the the added feature of a built-in flash. The EF model was only made for a very short time. The camera has a coated 25mm f/2.8 Ricoh lens.&nbs...p; It is a fixed-focus lens that is comprised of 4 elements in 3 groups. The lens has no scratches, fungus or haze. Without the use of flash, the cameras shutter speed is 1/125 sec. The built-in light meter selects the lens aperture. When in the flash mode, the shutter speed is automatically set to 1/30 sec. and the aperture is set manually based on the distance from the subject. The camera's selenium light meter is working but it has not been checked for accuracy by a camera technician. The shutter, aperture and flash work well as they should. The flash is powered by 2 AA batteries (not included with this sale) that mast be installed in the battery compartment in the bottom of the camera. The optical viewfinder is clean and clear with no fungus, haze or dust. The viewfinder has a display that shows yellow when you have adequate light or red when you have insufficient light (and must use flash). The camera must be operated with film loaded. The camera has a built-in spring motor for film advance. One full wind of the spring should provide at least 25 exposures. When the spring motor runs out, the spring must be wound again. All controls operate well. The camera is in mint- cosmetic condition with some very minor scratch on the camera's back door. All camera and lens functions work well. The camera will come with the original wrist strap. This camera is fully usable and it would also please the user and collector.
