Here is a rare, gorgeous mortality plate featuring well over 60 complete to partial fish that perished in Lake Goisute in Wyoming some 50 million years ago. It comes from an old collection. You just can’t find nice ones like you used to. All of the fish are Gosiutichthys parvus, a schooling fish that lived during the Eocene. A very bad day – perhaps a blue-green algae bloom or a huge change in temperature – killed all of these gorgeous fish at once. The result: an incredible... fossil with amazing preservation. The specimen measures 8.5 inches by 7 inches (measured at its longest points). It comes from the world-famous Green River Formation, which was made up of Lake Uinta, Fossil Lake and Lake Gosiute. This one comes from Lake Gosiute – from an area that I understand is almost completely off limits to collecting. That’s why you don’t see these kinds of specimens for sale very often. I acquired it some 20 years ago for my personal collection. But with two kids in college and more headed on the way, I need to sell some of my best fossils. This is one of them. For the fortunate buyer, I will pack this fossil very carefully to ensure it arrives safely. I always liked this fossil because it tells a story. It would make an excellent addition to your collection. PLEASE NOTE: On shipping, I only charge for what the Post Office charges me. If it's less, I will refund the difference to you. I do not charge for shipping materials. Please check out the other fossils that I’m selling from my personal collection, and thanks!
