Candy container in the form of Santa Claus. Santa's cardboard body is painted red and covered in teeny glass beads referred to as "Venetian Dew" which allows the glass beads to reflect and sparkle in a bright light. Santa's sculpted head is made of an early plaster/composition with subtle hand painted facial details and a very bushy rabbit's fur beard. Santa's nose has endured a little chipping (see photos). Hi...s head is attached to his rotund body with a spring which allows the head to bob and jiggle when moved. His hands are also attached to the body with springs; a few bends to the arms from years of storage and seasonal display. The sculpted head is kinda heavy so Santa can get a little "tipsy". I found that he stands nicely on a smooth flat surface.
The body of the figure can be opened in the middle. The two sections fit together snugly. There is ample room inside to hide Christmas candies or other goodies. The container is marked on the underside of the right foot with the single word early marking "GERMANY" (see photos).
A great addition to a collection of early Santa candy containers or as an accent to display of vintage holiday decorations and memorabilia!
