This amazing Victorian era antique Brussels Point de Gaze needlepoint lace carved MOP hand fan dates from the late 19th century. It is made of a hand made white fine net with delicate filmy needlepoint lace Brussels Point de Gaze, Rose Point flowers with layered petals, tiny looped stit...ches, intricate fancy filling stitches enhance the flowers and scrolls pattern. Point de Gaze laces were among the finest and most expensive of the 19th century products and most were made in Belgium. There is a highly detailed, exquisitely carved mother of pearl sticks and guards with decorative designs highlighted in gold and silver paint. The center medallion has a raised carved cameo scene of a couple capturing a bird and placing inside a cage. This fabulous folding fan has a decorative gold loop ring, with smaller ring and paste stone rivet at the bottom holding the fan together. The fan measures 11 inches long and is 21 inches wide when opened up. It is in good condition, with two old professionally done repairs which were patched with mother of pearl pieces. One repair is has been made on a break to the guard and the other on the top center stick (see bottom close-ups). This is truly an extraordinary rare piece of carved mother of pearl and handmade Brussels Point de Gaze lace fan art!
