This Japanese wood sosaku creative kokeshi doll is from the late 1970's, and she measures 6.75" tall and 9" in circumference around her head. She was designed by a most respected kokeshi doll artist - Yuji Kawase - who has won numerous top awards in Japan for his beautiful kokeshi creations, including the prestigious Prime Minister's Award. This doll's name is "Yaegoromo", which roughly translates to "Double Coat".
She is wearing a beautiful pistachio-green colored kimon...o, that's decorated with several layers of color, as well as red flowers. The artist burned or carved most of the details on this doll for added texture and interest. And there are 2 small circles of copper glitter on the black area. She has such a lovely face with tiny smiling lips and pink cheeks, framed by her jet black hair. The artist burned his name into the back of the doll. Please see any flaws below.
This kokeshi doll is in good vintage condition - hard to find many flaws - and she would make a great addition to your growing collection. White areas are camera glare. Please remember that this is a vintage doll that may have minor imperfections, such as dust/dirt/dings/scratches/scuffs/age spots. And please note the size of the doll as the pictures may make it look larger than it actually is.
