A classic pair of Ceylonese bookends. These evocative hand carved elephants transport you to the lush tropical world of Ceylon- now Sri Lanka. They were likely carved in the early to mid 1900s and today remain solid and with the benefit of a lovely aged patina. Down the years however the elephants have lost a few toenails and bone horns. The uprights of the bookends are carved to look like well, books! These are wonderful survivors and each measures approx 19cm in height and each is 2...0.5cm end to end.
