This is Edison's very first Cased Gem model, contemporary with the final production of Brown Wax cylinders. If you have been looking for an outstanding early Edison Gem, consider this museum-quali...ty example. This 120 year old phonograph has a near perfect Edison branded lid, showing little wear to the branded Edison stamp.The lustrous black japanned cast iron architecture of this Gem is excellent as is the original gilt detailing. The the nickel plating is superb, about as nice as you could ask for.This Gem's serviced motor is strong and quiet and easily plays through a cylinder with a full winding. The motor utilizes a new top-of-the-line Wyatt Markus leather belt, the best belting on the market today. This phonograph comes with it’s original scarce Gem 2-minute reproducer, only in production for about a year. It has an excellent sapphire stylus and original glass diaphragm. New gaskets have been installed and the reproducer tuned for optimal performance. The Edison includes its pristine original 10" cone horn, a fragile accessory that is often either missing or damaged. This is arguably among the finest original 10" horns that have survived, with excellent and gilt details.Included with this Standard are two nice Edison 2-minute cylinders. One is a period 1900 Brown Wax cylinder, shown in the video, the other is a 1903 Black Wax cylinder. With these cylinders you can enjoy this phonograph right out of the box. This phonograph will safely play all standard-sized 2-minute Black Wax and celluloid cylinders. There are also countless hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of black wax and celluloid cylinders available on Ebay and probably in local antique shops.
