Born in Duluth, Minnesota, Clifton Karhu graduated from the Minneapolis School of Art in 1952. He lived in Japan from 1955. He was active as a painter in oil, watercolor and sumi before taking up woodblock prints in the ear...ly 1960's. A member of the Nihon Hanga Kyokai since 1964, Karhu has had many solo shows throughout Japan.
Clifton Karhu works have been commissioned by major firms in Japan and Hong Kong and are represented in collections, including Cincinnati; Harvard University; St. Paul, Minnesota and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Very early in Mr. Karhu's works. A beautiful, large woodblock print by American master print maker who lived in Japan for over 50 years. This limited edition print is signed, dated and numbered (24/50) by the artist. The colors are vibrant and cool and would look fabulous in any decor, the image is one that I have not seen anywhere else due to it's low number. The print is matted and framed. Part of a wonderful personal collection of his works that we acquired.
See photos and email with any questions prior to purchase. This print has a small soft crease that may have occurred during framing, note bottom right corner. Otherwise overall condition is wonderful.
