Like an integrator, the Allbrit rule-form planimeters were designed to be used with a steel rail. The rail had a matte finish on the upper surface for the tracing wheel to roll on, and a groove for the rounded peg on the bottom of the planimeter frame to ride in. The rule-form planimeter filled the gap in chart size between what polar planimeters could handle and the continuous chart planimeters that could handle linear chart recorder traces of almost any length. Also... like most integrators, the rail associated with this planimeter, which was probably screwed down to a drawing board, has long since been lost. The rule-form planimeter is very seldom seen; and I’m not sure anyone but Stanley made them. The page describing them in the 1958 Stanley Catalog ‘A’ is included in the pictures.
This planimeter is in good condition, but there is some paint loss on the frame and there is rust on many of the steel parts, including the tracing wheel.
