There are some pipes every rotation needs, and one of those things is a good Larsen. I remember when I started smoking a pipe I had a slightly difficult time trying out corncobs and basket pipes. I had purchased a lot that needed cleaning that had several handmade pipes. There was one maker whose pipes just smoked too hot for me and went out a lot, and I could not figure out why. I had a Larsen that at the time I did not know much about, but right away made me forget I ever had a probl...em and smoked beautifully for me. It was my favorite pipe to relax with at night. The thing I always loved about them is the perform as well as they look. This is a stunning pipe with a beautiful straight grain and dark walnut toned finish. The shape is thoughtful, and gives you a different curve to ponder as you hold it and turn it around. You begin to notice subtleties in the shape that showcase highly skilled craftsmanship. Like a guitar player that takes a difficult piece of music and makes it look easy, this pipe has done the same. The chamber is very deep, and will last more than an hour. My guess would be almost two hours, or more. If you are like me and take breaks, this one can easily get you through the Good, The Bad, and the Ugly without having to reload. The rusticated patch at the bottom is just enough to add some contrast without hiding the grain. This large pipe sits easy in the hand and is shaped just right for a larger pipe.
