This is a Town and Country process Zippo made in 1964 for the Grumman Corporation. This high-flying company has been one of the leaders in the Aerospace industry. Their fighter and bomber airplanes have been at the forefront of our air superiority for over 65 years. The finish on the lighter has the Paint on Paint technology known as the Town and Co...untry. Since this process is done by hand, no two T & C lighters are exactly the same! This fantastic lighter is featured a couple of times in David Poore‘s book: “ZIPPO the Great American Lighter”. On page 66, the chronology of Town and Country is illustrated, as well as Zippo’s advertisement for the “Baked Ceramic Enamel” (T&C) finish. One of the lighters pictured on Zippo’s ad is a likeness of this beauty. The other one is on page 151 where David Poore includes this as the “Desirable Advertisers”. This, one of the most coveted Town and Country Zippo lighter is in fantastic condition. The dark spots are a reflection of my camera. The exceptionally good-looking Grumman logo is also in excellent condition with only a miniature blemish – please see over the letter A. Its original patent numbered insert is perfect, with a strong cam spring and the hinge is tight. It is also in perfect working order with a clear flint tube and as always, a new flint has been installed for your convenience.
