Singer Underbraider, Quilt Foot and New Thumb Screw will fit your Singer Featherweight 221.
Another one of my favorite Singer Attachments!Includes a reproduction bed screw, vintage Singer Underbraider, Singer Quilt Foot with Guide and a little over a yard of satin rat tail cord.
Note: Remember to use a stretch or ball point needle for better needle penetration through synthetic materials such as satin rat trail. Sharp pointed needles will push the sy...nthetic fibers down instead of going through cleanly as they do with natural fibers such as cotton).

The Singer Quilting Foot (included) with the quilt guide removed is designed to meet the feeder/guide point of your vintage Singer Underbraider to help your work flow smoothly.
Thread your Singer Underbraider guide with the satin rat tail cord. I find this easier to do before I attach the Underbraider.Other kinds of small braid such as soutache or even teeny tiny-tiny rick rack can be used in your Singer Underbraider. Not just rat tail cord!
Attach your vintage Singer Underbraider with the thumb screw to the bed of your Singer Featherweight making sure the little finger at the top hooks into the throat plate (light green arrow in the photo below).
The bed screw has a notch (which I like). Use a screw driver to gently secure the Underbraider to the machine bed.Being able to tighten the screw of any plate (buttonholer, embroidery plate..) on your sewing machine means you aren't likely to have a rapidly moving needle snap from hitting the plate instead of the needle hole. Take care to not over tighten.
Place the fabric right side down over your Singer Underbraider.You can follow a design marked on the wrong side of the fabric or stitch free form.
Curves are not a problem.
Be creative with your vintage Singer Underbraider to embellish your clothing, fun children's wear, quilt blocks and other crafts or just sit and doodle!
