Have you ever seen anything like this material? Very few localities of opal in the world fluoresce so strongly in sunlight. Some Andamooka opal is unique in how intensely this mineralogical phenomenon is displayed. If you have not seen the phenomenon before here is your chance to add some of these intriguing now rare gems to your collection. Happy bidding.
some very rare rocks emit light or make light of a different color in some circumstances. some... opal can change color, it gives off light of a new color when you have the correct conditions. it is called 'fluorescence'. usually you need ex-rays or ultra violet light to show this process. but, with these stones they emit deep blue light in sunlight. put them in the sun they are blue. Put them in a black bowl to see it best.

To gain the best view of this fluorescence phenomenon place your fluorescent opal in a dark bowl of water in sunlight or open shade on a sunny cloudless day. Those tumbled fluorescent stones that have already been sold. They are included to show the stark contrast a dark container makes in bringing out this extraordinary effect.

200 carats of those UNCUT rough stones are what you will receive.

The same rough opal material in my first picture is in the bowl and out of the bowl. only difference is the color of the bowl. it is a very rare phenomenon. it is attractive and strong and easy to see. But, no other minerals are like this anywhere in the world so it is incredibly rare and I sell the stones to teach people about this phenomenon.

they are not meant to sell as jewelry they are too valuable as specimens, unless you want to use them that way. mining in Andamooka where these stones come from is finished. they are not coming out of the mines anymore.

So, the opal in the lighter larger container is exactly the same stock rough material. Placed in a dark container it too will fluoresce similarly.

A Google search can lead you toward added information on fluorescence in minerals but there is very little for sale in any of its forms anywhere in the world.

This parcel of gemstones is from a deceased estate of opal mined around 60yrs ago. Where I use an Australian dollar coin for scale it is an inch or 2.5cm diameter.
