OLD STOCK ROCK: RARE TOP SHELF WEDGE SHAPED SLAB OF MORGAN HILL POPPY JASPER FOR DISPLAY OR CABBING. Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper is arguably one of the rarest and most beautiful of all the classic Jaspers. This piece is from a single vein occurrences that is now depleted and all pieces offered for sale will only be available from old collections. I personally collected this piece from the Llagas Creek deposit over sixty years ago in South Santa Clara Valley, Californ...ia.
This piece is approximately 4” x 4 1/4” at its widest dimension and is 1 1/4” thick tapering down to 0”. It weighs 564 grams or approximately 20.14 ozs.
Due to this rock’s formation by tectonic plate movement and subsequent earthquake action, it is prone to fracturing. This piece has both unhealed fractures and fractures healed by a secondary influx of Quartz. In my years of working with this unique Jasper, I have found that unhealed fractures can easily be stabilized with an application of either thin penetrating or thick gap filling cyanoacrylate glue. Once the piece has been “healed” with this product, it is suitable for all Lapidary endeavors.
