This beautiful red and white striped petrified wood slab is one of my all time favorites! This is definitely some of the most amazing wood grain you'll ever find in a stone! This colorful specimen was once a conifer tree growing in what is now Nevada. This wood can be large and is very well agatized, but full rounds are not very common in the material I've seen from the location and the vast majority of what I've seen from this site is monochromatic. This stunni...ng slab stands out as an exceptional example of the best of what is found near the town of Elko, Nevada. The color and the gemmy agate combine to produce a remarkable finished specimen that took an incredible polish to produce a world class display specimen. This is a very nice slab polished to an absolute mirror finish and a true collector piece.This is a really striking specimen of the petrified wood found in the sagebrush bowl near the town of Elko in Nevada. It's a pretty impressive rip cut slab (cut with the grain) of petrified wood, with absolutely gorgeous gem quality agate preserving this ancient fossil. What sets this wood apart from other varieties is the incredible array of color sometimes found inside, especially the rich red tones. This variety also typically has very nicely preserved wood grain structure unlike the other colorful varieties like Arizona & Madagascar. The fossil details of this ancient tree are all captured in a richly colored array of gem quality agate that preserved the wood grain beautifully in every detail! The rich wood grain in this attractive fossil specimen is very well defined and has it's own natural artistic beauty. My digital camera doesn't do well with light tones (it always gets the details washed out) but they are there and they are very impressive. The colors include lots of cream, orange, rusty red, brown and white - it's really a lovely specimen! This is a larger, thick cut display slab. It was cut with the fossil wood grain and then polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It took a beautiful polish, it really does look like a mirror! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over! This piece measures about 5 1/2" x 5" across the polished face and is cut about 0.36" thick. Weight is about 0.78 lbs.
