This is a large display sculpture prepared from a petrified log we introduced earlier last year and it shows some of the most unusual color patterns you'll find in Brazilian petrified wood! Although the white areas are fairly chalky the entire stone took a magnificent polish and produced a truly gorgeous decorator piece! This is a fossil conifer from one of the oldest petrified wood deposits on the planet and is prepared from the last large log I have from our acquisition o...f stone from the Tocantins province many years ago. Many decades ago we imported some exceptional petrified logs from Brazil and we are still in the process of preparing specimens (it's going to take years to finish it all!) This chunk came from a log that I assumed when I first cut it was either araucaria or dadoxylon, but even today I haven't been able to say which (there are very detailed honeycomb like cells in the growth rings but both species show this feature). What stood out most however were the high contrast colors in high grade agate preserved in this marvelous ancient treasure! What I can tell you is that it's a lovely, colorful round with wonderful preservation that will make an interesting and attractive addition to your collection. It's a wonderful set of nice, colorful shades with exceptional wood grain preserved in the fossil and revealed in the mirror polished face. It comes from the same area that the tree ferns we've recently been offering do and those have been dated at approximately 250 million years old, making them some of the oldest petrified wood specimens around. This gem grade fossil is all that remains of an ancient forest that thrived ages ago and is one of the finest rounds you'll see from that part of the world. I'm confident you'll find the wood itself much richer and much more lustrous than the photo is capable of showing - it's a truly beautiful specimen with a nice "skin" on the outside of the log. This top quality log is not only rare but it's also beautifully preserved. It has some of the most unusual color in the growth ring detail you'll ever see in South American petrified wood. If the timeless mystery of this piece isn't enough for you, then I'm certain the simple, natural, gemmy beauty of it will be. The colors are very contemporary and would fit into most decor, and the entire piece is completely preserved in a very high grade of agate. The high agate content allows this stone to be polished to a liquid perfect, lustrous finish that only the best grades of fossil wood can achieve. It will make a beautiful and interesting addition to any collection. This is a very solid log - easily one of the best from those I hand selected to work in my shop on my trip to Brazil. It's really a nice piece, but what else would you expect from a business named "Sticks-in-Stones"?!
