This log is truly what Blue Forest petrified wood is all about! The photos only barely begin to show off the great blue agate patterns and intricate fossil wood structure but it is a really gorgeous, gemmy log that you will absolutely love to have in your own display! It's a hefty, stout log with a slightly contorted shape that shows both a nicely shaped, finely preserved fossil log as well as the gorgeous infusion of nice rich b...lue agate framing the fossil wood in the face of the log! This is a very richly colored log with truly gorgeous, high contrast colors that look amazing against the rich colored agate preserving the wood. This one even features some pretty gold calcite crystal filling an agate cavity. The fossil wood itself is finely detailed and really polished beautifully on the cut end of the log to bring the amazing fossil structure of this gemmy treasure to life. This log does have a couple of internal fractures but they are more of a distraction in the photos than in hand and there are several insect borings filled with blue agate in this one as well! And of course the polish is mirror perfect, like every stone we produce here at Sticks in Stones Lapidary. This is truly a marvelous collector piece with a very wood like presence and a mirror perfect polish!! Here's an absolutely remarkable petrified wood log from a medium sized tree that was preserved in Wyoming's Blue Forest petrified wood deposit. This one is beyond nice, it is truly close to perfect and has some of everything that makes Blue Forest one of the most sought after petrified wood specimens around! This is a nice, hefty section cut from the center of a nicely shaped log that is completely preserved in its original shape, right down to the finely detailed wood grain cells. Unlike most petrified wood, the bark remains on this piece (it's the black ring that is floating around the main part of the round). The exterior is a petrified algae cast that entombed the log for eons. There are many agate regions which is, of course, how the Blue Forest earned its name. Several splits in the log are filled with various shades of agate - simply gorgeous! It has a really interesting, perfectly preserved feathered wood grain surface that shows both rings and ray cells!! There is more than enough detail captured here for the hobby hound or paleobotanist to easily classify it. This nice log is really a choice specimen from this location. This wood comes from a sagebrush desert in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The rich, coffee and black colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log! There are also multiple openings near the "bark" that have filed in with golden calcite which just looks beautiful in contrast to the rich blue agate. Much of the exterior is still coated in the fossil algae that preserved these ancient treasures in a long lost tropical swamp. Of course, it's prepared with our trademark mirror finish that only the Sticks-in-Stones rockshop can put its name on! This is a good sized section from a really nice log. It measures about 4 1/4" across the polished face. It's just over 6" long on the longer side and weighs about 3.2 lbs. It has been cut and polished on our specially built lapidary equipment to produce a mirror perfect, unparalleled shine to show off all the gemmy detail and spectacular fossil beauty inside.
