We do not see any manufacturer’s marks on the pipe. We are unsure as to where exactly the pipe was made but are fairly certain it was made somewhere within China. We are also unsure as to how old the pipe is but judging by the rest of the collection in the estate lot it came from we are also fairly certain it is antique. The pipe appears to be incomplete. We do not know what originally came with the pipe and thus cannot say what exactly is missing. The pipe looks to be made of an alloy, likely brass or some paktong-type variation. None of the metal components were attracted to a magnet when tested. The body has a beautiful enameled cloisonne design with an elegant floral pattern and Ruyi style borders. The pipe also has what appears to be a braided tassel attached to it. The pipe has general wear such as aging, discoloration, scratches, nicks, dings, oxidation, manufacturing imperfections, and dirty and/or stained areas. The hinge on the compartment lid has become almost completely separated from the pipe. It appears that this hinge might be able to be fixed with a glue made for metal or perhaps welded or soldered in place. As it is the hinge is still operable but without attention we are guessing that repetitive use may eventually cause the lid to completely separate. The pipe measures roughly 13 1/4” in height and weighs roughly 13.5 oz. The tassel measures roughly 8 1/4” in length.
