1965 Dunhill DR A2 Root Briar Estate Pipe - Rare Shape Code For A Dead Root

This pipe is a 1965 Dunhill Root Briar DR A2 squat bulldog pipe with tapered stem.  Yup, you don’t see these every day, in fact, I don’t know if I have ever seen one from this era.  This Dunhill estate pipe is all original with the tapered stem being original to the pipe. The coloring is rich,  with grain around the bowl.  It is a hair lighter towards the top, but this is expected with less heat transfer there not darkening the grain like below the lines.&n...bsp;This old girl has been around, so she is not without wear and some dings/dents, but really only in the decorative cut lines.  Other than that, I don’t see any other marks or blemishes.  Everything looks to be in good shape with the bowl interior looking very sound but a little worn around the draft hole.   As for sizing, this is a Dunhill group 4 in sizing of the bowl but not marked as such.  It has a perfect feel in the hand with the facets comfortable molding to the contours of your hand.  The stem is very comfortable and seems is of quality, even as received the oxidation was very minimal on this one and cleaned up easily.  The stem is in very good condition with and is polished to a glossy black.  The fit up is good, tensions is nicely tight.  The nomenclature on this pipe is worn a bit but still in readable condition.  The date code through my naked eye looked like a 9 but under the loop, you can easily see that it is a 5, thus 1965.  Overall, a good pipe and although not a perfect museum piece, it is still a pretty rare find in wild.   The pipe:  1965 Dunhill Root Briar DR A2 Squat Bulldog Estate PipeLeft side nomenclature:  DR A2(left), Dunhill (over) Root BriarRight side nomenclature: Made in England 5 (center)Bottom: NoneStem nomenclature:  Inlaid white dot – original stemShape: Squat BulldogOverall Length: 5.08"Bowl Height: 1.502"Bowl Outer Diameter: 1.70"Bore Width: 0.80"Bore Depth: 1.10"Weight:  1.26 oz.
