WOW! ANTIQUE AMERICAN UNIQUE SALESMAN SAMPLE POTATO PICKER DIGGER FARM HARVESTER
Up for sale is a unique and original antique the late 1800s, early 1900s salesman sample of an unusual and possible one of a kind horse or mule-drawn farm implements. In my opinion, this is a potato digger/picker harvesting machine. This unusual sample was discovered in the Wisconsin area in the United States and ended up... first in a collection of a farmer and then brought to my collection here in Canada. In a farmer's description it simply stated "Salesman sample potato picker", but I believe it is more than just a picker. It is an entire giant machine that includes the sorting section where a team of people can stand selecting the best potatoes. This sample is made of a variety of materials. Back in the day's makers would use any available materials. Those who can afford would make a sample out of brass. This inventor made it out of tin, metal, wood, and cloth belts. The back wheels carry more load and they appear to be made of iron. The front wheels are made of metal and what I think are the leather rims. The sample is painted and all paint is original. I have not repaired, cleaned, or modified anyhow this superb piece of agricultural history. It would benefit from cleaning, reinforcing, tightening the nuts, adjusting, and re-attaching some of the parts. In order to display it better, I've propped the sample on a small piece of hard cardboard to release the pressure from wheels and show it better. The front wheels have screws that need to be tightened so they stay on an axle. I never operated this machine and just had it as a great looking example of a rare salesman sample. Selling it as is in the condition it was discovered. It was originally kept inside a carrying case, but the case was discarded because of the extensive damage to the wood and leather. I wish objects like that would be kept since they can tell a lot about the history of the sample. The picker is about 21" long, about 13" wide, and approximately 9 1/2" high. It will be a great addition to any collection or a museum of early American invented and made salesman samples of farm implements!
