1964 Gibson LG - 1 Vintage Acoustic Guitar Sunburst W/ Upgrade Bridge, Case
Item History & Price
The one-piece mahogany neck has a a round, substantial-feeling medium C carve with full shoulders in every register, gaining a bit more heft higher up the fretboard and very easy-playing, measuring .850" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 9th. On the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, the original medium jumbo frets are intact with well-rounded crowns and their full factory height, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The original nylon nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains a clean gold Gibson silkscreen and the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines with stock white buttons.
The guitar boasts an ebony bridge, a significant upgrade over the original bolt-on plastic bridge, sitting flush with the top on all edges and featuring a carved and compensated bone saddle. Visible through the soundhole, the back of the body retains the original factory "LG-1" stamp. The original Sunburst nitro lacquer gloss is accented by the stock tortoise pickguard, and cosmetic wear includes lacquer checking across the body, most prominent oriented vertically across the back and behind the bridge on top. There is prominent strum wear and a few minor marks scattered across the guard, as well as some minor scuffs and nicks on the body as a whole. Additionally, there is a very faint speckling of more reddish marks on top, akin to what you see with Gibson’s aniline dye bleed but on top of the finish, one tiny touched up nick on the bass-side lower bout edge adjacent to the binding, and a scuff through the lacquer on the back treble-side lower bout edge. The neck profile retains its nitro gloss along the profile length, free of palm wear with just a few minor marks that aren't distracting to the palm while fretting.
A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
