SPORTSMAN - John Hudson Moore - c1940's-50's Stout Rhodesian VERY NEAR MINT REFURB! Stout Rhodesian/slightly bent bulldog. These are nicely made pipes, this one is particularly good looking and very near mint too!HISTORY:The Sportsman pipe is by John Hudson Moore . It’s a company around in the 1940’s and I’ve seen an ad from 1947 showing their unique paneled rustic and smooth finish. “Sportsman, Champion of Pipes” Ad states: “ Looks good to the eye, look again. Notice how t...he bruyeres natural burl areas complement those smooth, polished planes. Sportsman smokes as sweet as it looks.” Pictured is 3 sportsman pipes and bird dog pointing bird. He had a line of toiletries in the 1940’s and the pipes seem a part of a larger product line for the sportsman of the day. This pipe is made to look rustic and masculine, and it pulls that off nicely! It's a great looking stout pipe wth thick bowl walls, with a unique bevel cut to the bottom of the bowl and thick features. They all enjoy a pattern of rustication and the ones I've seen have all been very well made. This pipe is in very near mint condition, looks just lightly smoked, and has no noted wear to bowl or stem! It’s freshly polished, weighs about 2.65 ounces, draws very easy with draw hole at bottom center, and is ready to smoke!Markings: SPORTSMAN , IMPORTED BRIAR 1227Approximate Dimensions:Overall Length – 5 5/8”Bowl Height – 1 1/2”Inside Diameter – 7/8”Weight - 2.65 ounceImages sell!My Refurbs include, but are not limited to:I thoroughly ream the bowl, leaving little to no char or carbon buildup. I treat the bowl with a grain alcohol (Everclear) and Kosher Salt soak. I soak the stems in an H2O, lemon essential oil infused mixture to sterilize and remove most of the oxidation on the stem. I clean the inside of the shaft, bowl and stem with a pipe cleaner and 8 part grain alcohol (Everclear) and 2 part Amaretto liqueur mixture. I thoroughly clean and polish the stems back to like new condition with a wet sand all the way down to 3000 grit. I lather up some Murphy’s saddle soap (99% natural ingredients) and give a final treatment and clean to the bowl. Lastly, I buff the stem and bowl with two coats of Carnauba wax to a better than new shine.
