This is a stunningly beautiful c1910 British Arts and Crafts lavalier necklace, which is just a fabulously designed piece. Such an eyecatcher! The necklace has so many lovely touches and you can see the hand worked nature of the silver work and where the silversmith has made connections, links etc. It retains that lovely handmade feel whilst also being a fine piece of work ....almost delicate in its setting of the abalone shells. One triangular shell is set with square jaws and on...e round piece of shell is set with these square claws too, in the central part of the pendant. I did wonder whether this was a Charles and Gladys Mumford piece, as there are numerous similarities. However, it has been suggested that this necklace pre-dates them by a good number of years and is c1910 (slap bang in the original Arts and Crafts period).I adore the design and to be honest, the reality of the necklace is much better than the images suggest, so I am sure its new owner will be delighted with it.The chain's length is approx. 47.5cm and the pendant section measures approx 7cm in length.I will send this beautiful necklace by International Tracked and Signed from here in Italy. Box is for display purposes only. Thank you!
