Fine Boston Blocked And Serpentine Mahogany Desk Shell Carved Lid 1780 Fine
Item History & Price
A very special carved quality grain solid mahogany Boston area fall front desk with shell carved lid and ball and claw feet. This is a fresh estate item from a Philadelphia estate that had several pieces of early American furniture from Queen Anne to Federal periods mostly made from New England and Boston area. As you can see from back boards original cabinet makers label is missing but a remnant of a 1800's antique dealers label is there. Desk has had some repairs a long time ago and ...some drawer bottoms have been replaced and a polished finish most likly from the 1800's antique dealer who sold it. A desk that was certainly a most expensive desk and made by a high quality cabinet maker in the Boston area. Desk is not to large at a 40" waist. Ball and claw feet exceptionally well carved. Desk interior is well done with flame carved document drawers and a shell carved center drawer. Very handsome desk being sold for a fraction of its value. Will supply serious buyers more photos. Local pickup or will assist with freight shipping.
