This is a vintage, hand-forged (handgeschmiedet) Stubai, from the town of the same name in the Austrian Alps. It is vintage (probably from the '60s-'70s, though hard to know for sure exactly when they changed to the basic Wusthof, F. Dick, Henckels design that they still use), hand-forged of virgin steel (late '80s all the European cutlery companies switched to recycled steel), and with the unique, signature handle design. These were briefly sold in this country and apparently ...were priced higher than the aforementioned German lines. I think the handle material has a "warmer" feel than the black plastic handles. These is heavy duty cutlery. From the sharpening and use characteristics of my own Stubai knives, these seem to be harder steel than the German knives, so takes a bit more effort to get a keen edge, but they hold it longer. You will be impressed.
