Earlier 20th CenturyA very interesting and scarce work of a First Nation chief in traditional dress that was recently found in a private collection in France. The canvas and stretcher are almost certainly French so we wonder if the sitter is from the French- Canadian provinces?
Provenance- Private collection, Reuil-Malmaison, France.
Age- Earlier to Mid 20th CenturyMedium- Oils on canvas. Size- 23.5 by 18 inches approx (600 x 460 mm) Condition- The painting is dark and a little dirty with plenty of varnish browning. Some separation and craqueleur visible, bar marks evident. Please excuse the reflections on the photos from the flash photography.Signature- Unsigned Belvoir Fine Art Statement
