Here is a good, honest Civil War field surgical set in original case, 20 pcs in all. It is mostly complete although lacking most of the velvet lined interior for holding the instruments. Many of the instruments are marked Tiemann, for Geo. Tiemann of New York, who made many fine surgical instruments during the Civil War. One pair of forceps is marked SKLAR and appears to be a little later than Civil War. But most are matching and from Tiemann. The wooden c...ase (mahogany or rosewood with brass fittings) is stamped on the inside "NY VOL REGT" although there is no number designation. Came from upstate New York estate. CONDITION: there is some rust to some of the instruments. Handle of trephine is present but the rest is not. The case is in rough shape with some cracking to wood and losses to interior. But it has survived the Civil War and was clearly used so it's a miracle it survived at all this intact! What you see in the photos is what you get.
