Offered here as a buy it now or best offer is this early 20th century whirlygig and weather vane with Uncle Sam riding a cow.. First some dimensions: its 29" long with a blade diameter of 14". Uncle Sam and the cow stand 12" high whereas the vane's tail itself measures 15 3/4". The paint on the tail (silver) as well as on Uncle Sam and the cow, while obviously weathered, is wholly original. Made entirely of tin and iron, when the blade spins, Uncle Sam is ...supposed to rock back and forth, the cow's tail moves up and down, and the cow itself moves. The blade spins freely since it ingeniously used the ball bearing hub of a bicycle wheel, but the movement of the cow and Uncle Sam is somewhat muted (and the tail keeps disconnecting from the rod that moves it). Surely if one wants to have a fully articulated whirlygig here, some adjustment and a bit of WD40 are doubtlessly necessary. But as is she's a fantastic piece of American folk art. The stand I should add is merely make-do for purposes of displaying it here, but will be included. Fortunately, the tail is removable for purposes of shipping, so domestic FedEx shipping I'll estimate at $50 (but if less I will refund).
