2 Antique Vtg 1888 BENJAMIN HARRISON & LEVI MORTON Presidential Campaign Poster
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:44737343 | Type: Posters |
I haven’t been able to find out any information about these posters. But since the Cleveland/Thurman ticket lost and Thurman never became vice president (and all four posters were found together), it's clear that these posters weren’t from a set of presidential and vice-presidential portraits. There is no evidence that these posters were ever bound in a book. I’m not sure if these were actually considered campaign posters or posters that were used in classrooms to teach about elections (did they do that back then?). What I do know is that they are definitely from the 1888 election time period.
These posters were printed by “Richard K. Fox, Show Printer & Engraver, N.Y.”. Fox of New York also printed circus posters, promoted boxing, and was publisher of the Police Gazette. The Harrison poster measures approx. 10-3/4” x 14-1/4”. The Morton poster measures approx. 11” x 14-1/4”. The Harrison poster may have been trimmed 1/4”. These are NOT printed on cardboard. They are not stiff like card stock either -- just a bit heavier than regular paper. Posters bend easily and could be rolled if necessary (but I'll be shipping them flat).
Please read this description and review the close-up photos carefully as these posters have condition issues. Posters have edge and corner wear. There are a few small pieces missing from edges and corners plus a few tiny tears in margin areas. There are a couple of creased corners. Posters have soil, discoloration and spotting. Back sides have extensive overall discoloration. Back sides also have strips of glue residue/wear/paper remnants at top and bottom edges. NO writing anywhere. NO weird or musty odors. The “moonchildbooks” blurb does not appear on the actual posters.
I am happy to combine orders to save on shipping costs. I will take great care in packaging your posters using a shallow box with cardboard reinforcement. As always, feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. I prefer to offer these posters in an auction format and NOT with a Buy-It-Now price or Best Offer.
