Fabulous diamond paste brooch
The measurement taken from star point to star point top to bottom is 4 cm ( 1'5 "
These pieces are very desirable as they are becoming rare to find, one could be easily fooled that the stones are diamonds but when you test them for diamonds of course it reveals that they are past stones, the word paste. is used to refer to gemstones made up of various kinds of cut glass.lead glass ...were most commonly used, since the denser the material, the higher the refractive index and the greater the dispersion, this is why lead glass is used for the fracture filling of ruby.
According to Antique paste jewellery ~paste was only made from circa 1700 -1895 but the term has been more generalized to include pieces in the art Deco period too.And for some it is used to describe Jewellery even later than that.
Which are paste stone and glass a lot of these stones were used in the Victorian days ~ to look at, people will assume they are diamonds as they sparkle like diamonds.
