Description: Up for sale is this very interesting American oil on canvas painting. Dating circa 1880 the frame is period and was manufactured in Philadelphia. Note paper label still attached. Depicts a mother and child walking through the snow to reach a home in the distance. The woman is carring a bundle of kindling on her back. Two lights shine from the home in the distance leading the way. Painting is unsigned as is often the case with folk art. Interesting to think that this scene... would have been typical for the time: one's ability to stay warm through the winter was directly dependant on your ability to bring in enough wood to keep from freezing.
